Memory defines us as human beings, but our memories by nature can be faulty, inaccurate, and not always fair. Memory is edited, erased, embellished, and inherited. It is influenced by power, storytelling, and whose voice is amplified or ignored. In this project, we will use embroidery to remember something that becomes a slow, deliberate act of rememory—each stitch a choice about what to preserve, distort, or let fade. Using an image connected to the social studies content and a quote from Beloved, you will stitch together personal meaning with historical context. What we stitch, how we stitch it, and what we leave unfinished all matter. You aren’t necessarily creating something that decorates history, but more about questioning and reflecting on it.
